MMMAD Festival Open Call:

Exhibition  3D Design  2024
Animation for the MMMAD Festival’s Open Call “Arte en la ciudad” responding to the years theme “im feeling lukcy”.

The Madrids digital arts festival MMMAD curated by Hyper House,  is a non-profit cultural association whose aim is to exhibit, disseminate and think about digital creation. Focused on the intersection between digital culture and public space, the association has been organising the MMMAD festival since 2020, with a programme of exhibitions, installations, calls, workshops and meetings throughout the city every year.

This years Open Call for the exhibition “Arte en la Ciudad” titled by the theme “im feeling lucky”, which aims to explore what is behind the button of the Google search bar. When pressing this button, the user decides to trust the search engine to make a choice for them amongs the thousands of possible places within the internet, opening a question about the ammount of control we decide to surrender or give.

When thinking about the premise of "I'm Feeling Lucky," that button we press, depositing our faith in that machine called Google, it's inevitable to think of the similarities in sensations that this act evokes with that scene from the glass elevator in the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

That beautiful and futuristic device, whose marvelous technology allowed it to take anyone to anywhere they pleased in a matter of seconds, but at the same time, while being inside of it, one saw their life at the hands of that machine and its will, which evoked as much admiration as it did fear. This analogy is accentuated in the moment  Willy Wonka presses the "Up and out" button, where really, they have no other choice but to cross their fingers and trust that machine, wherever it takes them, won't destroy them along the way. This piece portrays the feeling of surrender to technology, in which we are forced to trust nowadays, materialized in an object that is part of our collective memory.

Up and Out will be exhibited during the month of May in the city of Madrid as part of the exhibition “Digital Art in the City” under the MMMAD Festival. Thanks to Clear Channel and UE Creative Campus. Photos and videos courtesy of MMAD Festival & Santa Monica Films.
