An interactive design installation to perform live typography animations manipulated through a physical controler.

This project was born from a personal interest in typography, especially applied in motion design, but taking a more experimental approach, instead of using the more commercial or traditional tools.

Rather than creating animations with a start and a finish, this project dives deep in using procedural design tools to create generative visuals that have a circular timeline, in which a series of parameters, like scale, colour, position, tiling, speed, displacement among others, can be manipulated by the user, giving them the possibility to create infinite, singular and unique live animations

This is accomplished by using TouchDesigner, a generative live visuals programme. All visuals are created using a procedural node system that run live on the background. With these are composed a series of displays with typography in motion as the main character. These can be altered using the input signals being fed to the network with the controller, built and coded specially for the needs of this interface, letting the user perform typography to create interesting moving displays.

The project was exhibited at the Digital Focus exhibition at Design Academy Eindhoven’s Research Lab, directed by Ian Biscoe, together with the works of other colleagues from the semester. This was an oportunity to let other people ‘play’ with type and see how they would interact with the controler without an explanation.
